BACKGROUND INFORMATION
In Carlos Gámez de Francisco’s latest series, Modern Era, classical and contemporary painting beautifully intertwine. The Cuban-born painter and photographer blends his traditional style, largely based on portraiture, with modern art techniques. His subjects exude a simultaneously elegant and cool aura. Combined with animated surroundings, his works become deeply thought-provoking. They transcend time and everyday reality, just as the flamingos and lush foliage escape their natural habitat to become timeless symbols of beauty.

For a long time, Carlos Gámez de Francisco focused on the art of portraits before deciding to specialize in classical motifs. Instead of depicting nobility and the wealthy, he devoted his efforts to persons not endowed with titles and money. However, he maintains certain characteristics of traditional portraiture, painting his protagonists in front of regency-style furniture and elaborate dresses – reminiscent of palace life and royalty. Equipped with distinct modern-day details, his subjects become time travelers. For example, sunglasses and magazines appear in his works, contrasting the historic ambience.

From the young age of five, Carlos Gámez de Francisco aspired to be an artist. Son of a Cuban-Spanish mother and Cuban-American father, he now devotes as many as 15 hours a day to painting and photography. His work ethic and talent are impressive – and lay the foundation for his highly successful career. In recent years, Gámez de Francisco has been inundated with awards. His works sell fast, and many are on exhibition in galleries and museums internationally.
